SEATTLE – February 19, 2008 – Earth Class Mail, a global service that delivers postal mail online, announced today the opening of its first retail store, located in downtown Seattle at 93 S. Jackson St.
The Seattle location ushers in a period of dramatic growth for Earth Class Mail. By the third quarter of 2008, retail locations will have opened in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. By mid-2009, several more stores will open in major metropolitan markets across North America.
“The vast majority of our customers’ postal mail is delivered electronically, rather than as paper envelopes they have to drive over to pick up,” said James Gallagher, Vice President of Inside Sales at Earth Class Mail. “As a result, we’re able to support thousands of customers through a single store location versus the typical capacity of only 100-200 customers that private mailbox or executive suite operators can support. The volume allows us to price our mailboxes less expensively, while adding exclusive remote control mailbox features, secure internet delivery, and even free recycling and shredding. Customers like the time savings, because we notify them by email when new mail arrives so they don’t have to waste gas making trips to their PO Box or office just to see if anything arrived in the mail – now it’s remotely accessible just like their voicemail and email.”
Currently, Earth Class Mail customers choose from a selection of 20 remote addresses for receipt of their postal mail. These ultra-secure mail-processing centers scan the exterior of each customer’s envelopes and present the scanned images to the customer in his secure Earth Class Mail account. For each envelope, the customer decides whether to have Earth Class Mail scan the contents for online viewing, forward it, shred it, or recycle it -- all with the click of a mouse.
At the new retail location in Seattle, visitors may view a demonstration of the service and sign up for an Earth Class Mail account in person. In addition, local customers may have their mailed packages delivered to the store and held for pick-up.
Earth Class Mail serves as many market segments as the U.S. Postal Service – from residential consumers to Fortune 500 companies, as well as military and government. Currently, individuals and businesses in more than 130 countries use the Earth Class Mail service to receive and manage their U.S. postal mail digitally — instead of in paper form. In January, Earth Class Mail announced the completion of a $13.3 million Series A Preferred Financing round, led by Bellevue, Wash.-based venture-capital firm Ignition Partners.
